In early October we installed an interactive projection piece at an event for Gawker. Hosted on their rooftop deck in Soho, the event was one of their biggest parties of the year with Samantha Ronson headlining. All attendees were given headphones, which could be tuned to different music channels allowing the guests to choose their own music for the evening, creating a “silent event.” Since there was no aural cohesion throughout the party, the projection provided a visual anchor allowing all guests to stay connected despite the restriction on conversation.
The projection highlighted the dance floor shining a pleasing blue light down upon the guests. Using the Kinect Camera to track the visitors, the generative imagery responded with a colorful gradation mapped to each person’s body. The projection displayed in real time and was specifically created for the event giving Gawker a unique, site-specific experience branded for the affair. The visuals played for 6 hours and provided continuous feedback and an immersive experience for the entire night.
